Joshua's Waldspielgruppe

Seit ein paar Wochen geht Joshua zwei Vormittage der Woche in eine Waldspielgruppe - und liebt es!

Since his 2nd birthday at the end of March, Joshua goes to an outdoor preschool (all weather!) two mornings a week -- and loves it!

Zuerst sammeln sich alle 10 Kinder am Treffpunkt, und dann geht es los mit Rucksaecken und Bollerwagen auf in den Wald.

First the 2 and 3-year olds have opening circle at the meeting point; then they set off with backpacks and a big wagon (below one of the teachers is pulling it) into the nearby, romantic forest.



Dort gibt es viele Sachen zu erkunden und zu entdecken. Ausserdem kann man ganz toll klettern...

At their wooded destination, they have a healthy snack, then time for free play. There are lots of things to explore and discover in the woods. And then there's Joshua's favorite activity at the moment -- climbing!



Auf einem Baumstamm zu trommel macht auch maechtig Spass!

Joshua loves to turn anything into a musical instrument! He's very interested in drums and guitars at present.

Wie findet Ihr meine tolle Matschhose?

Of course, the kids are well equiped for rain or damp, sunny and warm. These pants are a wonderful German invention called "Matschhosen", or mud pants. The kids wear them over their clothes when the ground is wet, and if it rains, they add rain jackets and hats. So they really can have fun and play in every kind of weather.

Joshua's 2. Geburtstag - Birthday

Endlich mal wieder ein neuer Eintrag von uns!
Finally another update from the Lawrenz family!

Joshua schreibt: Zu meinem 2. Geburtstag kamen Oma & Opa vorbei. Es gab leckeren Kaesekuchen (Danke Mama!) und Muffins (Danke Oma!), und lustige Sachen wie einen Geburtstagshut und eine Troete.
Joshua tells about his 2nd birthday: Mama, Papa, Oma and Opa all came to my "cake party". We had yummy cheesecake (thank you, Mommy!) and tasty muffins (thanks, Oma!), as well as fun party favors and decorations.




Oma & Opa haben Luftschlange mitgebracht, die wir aufgehaengt haben. Das war lustig!
I had fun decorating -- and undecorating!



Papa & Mama haben mir zum Geburstag einen Sandkasten geschenkt, den Opa im Garten aufgebaut hat. Leider darf ich nicht laenger als den ganzen Tag darin spielen, am liebsten wuerde ich darin schlafen...
Mommy and Papa gave me a sandbox for my birthday, which Opa put together in the yard. I play in it every day if I have the chance. . .


Und von meiner Uroma Lawrenz habe ich diese tolle Schubkarre bekommen; damit kann ich Papa im Garten helfen.
I also got a wheelbarrow from my great-grandma. I love using it to help Papa in the garden.


Und ausserdem kam zu meinem Geburtstag auch Tante Meredith vorbei. Das war eine tolle Ueberaschung!
As a special treat, my Aunt Meredith ("Dede") arrived just in time for my birthday and stayed with us for a week.


Wir waren zusammen im Zoo und haben bei uns im Garten im Sandkasten gespielt.
Dede went with me to the zoo (I've been talking about it ever since) and taught me about circles in the sandbox. It was great!

Besuch aus Herten - Visitors from Northern Germany

Mitte Maerz hatten wir lieben Besuch von Andy's Onkel Martin und Tante Elke aus Herten (im Ruhrgebiet). Passend dazu brachten sie (so jedenfalls die Behauptung) herrliches Fruehlingswetter, sodass wir sogar endlich mal auf unserer Terasse die Sonne und warme Temperaturen geniessen konnten.
Mid-March we had Andy's Uncle Martin and Aunt Elke for a visit from the Dortmund area in Northern Germany. They brought (at least that's what they claimed to be responsible for) nice springy weather and warmer temperatues which we enjoyed on our patio.


Ein kleiner Stadtbummel brachte uns zu einem unserer Lieblingscafes: Das Glockenspielcafe mit Blick auf das Rathaus und das beruehmte Glockenspiel. Und genau dieses konnten wir dann auch miterleben wie Ihr auf dem Bild sehen koennt. Es war ein sehr entspanntes und schoenes Wochenende - vielen Dank fuer Euer Kommen!
Our walk through the city center brought us to one of our favorite cafes: the Glockenspiel Cafe, where you sit facing the town hall and the famous Glockenspiel. And we were able to experience that very thing, as you can see in the picture. It was a very nice and relaxing weekend - thanks so much for coming, Martin and Elke!

Winter Aktivitaeten - winter activities

Im Maerz gab es noch einmal Schnee in Muenchen. Da spielen wir entweder drinnen mit Knete und bauen einen (naja, blauen) Schneemann...
In March, we got some more snow in Munich. So we either played inside with playdoh, building a (blue) snowman...





oder draussen im Schnee. Jedenfalls macht beides riesig Spass!
or outside in the snow. Both is lots of fun!
