November 2012: Thanksgiving!

Am Donnerstag "Thanksgiving" kamen Nils und Emily aus dem Krankenhaus nach Hause. Um so mehr Grund für uns dankbar zu sein und das am Sonntag mit einem Familienessen zu feiern.

Many reasons to be thankful this Thanksgiving! Nils and Emily came home from the hospital -- for the second time -- on Thanksgiving, and we post-celebrated on Sunday with a family meal.

We did not set Henry up to this -- he truly couldn't wait another minute!

November 2012: Nils im Krankenhaus - Nils in hospital

Nils hat uns ziemlich erschrocken, als er - erst gut 2 Wochen alt - mit steigendem Fieber ins Krankenhaus musste. Die Ärzte haben alles durchgecheckt (und manche erschreckende Tests durchgefuehrt) aber konnten letztendlich nur feststellen, dass er ein Infekt hatte, vermutlich bakteriel. Sieben Tage lang hat er Antibiotika bekommen. Emily blieb bei ihm und nach einer Woche durfte er wieder nach Hause.

Nils gave us quite a shock at 2 and 1/2 weeks. Our pediatrician sent us to the hospital due to rising fever and lethargy. He was then subjected to many tests (some quite frightening for Mom at first), which thankfully ruled out the worst of possibilities. In the end the doctors could only say that he had an infection which they believed to be bacterial. As a result, he received a seven day intravenous treatment and was constantly monitored for oxygen levels, pulse, blood pressure, etc. Emily stayed with him in a mother-child room. We are thankful for the excellent care received and were even more thankful to go home on Thanksgiving Day, after seven nights in the hospital.

November 2012: Neues von Nils

Nils ist jetzt schon fast 2,5 Wochen alt und hier kommen endlich mal wieder ein paar neue Fotos. Er schaut jetzt schon aufmerksam auf das, was um ihn herum passiert. 

By now Nils is almost 2.5 weeks old, and here are some more pictures of him and us. He has started to actively pay attention to what's going on around him.

Und hier ein paar Eindrücke von unserem Ausflug in den Wildpark Poing letztes Wochenende. Es war tolles Herbstwetter und wir hatten viel Zeit mitgebracht. Die haben wir auch gebraucht: für die vielen Tiere (alle sind oder waren in bayerischen Wäldern heimisch), die Flugshow der Greifvögel, den riesigen Spielplatz und vieles mehr...

And here some impressions of our trip to a really neat animal park in Poing last weekend. We had fantastic fall weather and took our time to see all the animals (like deer, bears, wolves, lynxes, pigs, goats), the bird show, the huge playground ...

September 2012 - Fall activities, Herbst in Bayern

We went to a little mountain called Laber near Oberammergau, where enjoyed the nice sunny fall weather. Wir waren bei Oberammergau auf dem Laber. Es war eine schöne kleine Rundtour bei Bilderbuchwetter.

We also went to a farm festival with some friends, just a few minutes from our home in the nearby village Aubing. The boys loved the animals, we enjoyed the food...
